Polymers are compounds built up from repeating building blocks. There are a wide variety of materials present. Acrylics are one such material kind. "Acrylic" refers to the polymer made from acrylic. Acrylics, also known as acrylic polymers, are a type of polymer that is made by chaining together smaller, repeating units called acrylates. Analogously, acrylates can be made by reacting acrylic acid with a base. And what exactly does acrylic consist of? The most basic explanation involves the acrylate and acrylic acid or acryl group. That is the standard explanation of what acrylic is. Pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are frequently made from acrylic polymers because of their ability to adhere with only a small amount of pressure.

Many common consumer, commercial, and industrial items are made from acrylic, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) based polymers, which are relatively  low- toxic but may include trace amounts of leftover monomers and process toxins. It could be harmful to or irritate the eyes. Allergic skin reactions can occur after repeated or prolonged contact with the allergen. Ingestion Inhalation at a higher concentration may cause irritation. Inhalation inhaling a concentration of dust that is higher than the safe limit may cause short-term discomfort. Based on the Exposure-based Quantitative Risk Assessment strategy, the potential for inducing contact allergy in consumers was calculated.

Emulsion polymerization is an option for synthesizing the acrylic polymers used in the binder. It was discovered that random and AB block copolymers made from CCTP macromonomers could be employed as polymerizable surfactants in emulsion polymerizations, eliminating the need for traditional surfactants to stabilize particles. Waterborne pigment dispersants for automobile paints were developed by Huybrechts et al., who used CCTP to synthesize macromonomer copolymers of BA and methacrylic acid via standard solution polymerization for use in the formulation of automotive base coatings.
