Lathe Machine Parts

A lathe has six primary components. The primary components include the bed, headstock assembly, main spindle, tailstock, carriage, and overload safety mechanisms. The handwheel, dead centers, and adjustment screws make up this mechanism. The tailstock's base is fixed on the bed's guideways, allowing the body to be adjusted in relation to the base. A variety of holding tools, such as the chuck, face plate, lathe centers, steady rest, mandrels, etc., are commonly used in conjunction with lathe machines. Chuck is one type of work holding mechanism available on lathe machines.To create symmetrical components and parts from metal, a lathe spins the workpiece around an axis while cutting tools are applied.

Bed:The lathe's bed serves as the platform for the machine's many other components. Wide box-section columns hold up the cast iron or nickel cast iron alloy bed.

Headstock: The headstock's primary role is to distribute energy to the lathe's various working components.

Tailstock:The tailstock, unlike the fixed headstock, is free to move and is found at the other end of the bed.

Carriage:The position of the carriage is between the headstock and the tailstock.

Saddle:A casting in the shape of a H sits above the lathe ways. The cross-slide, compound rest, and tool post are all supported by this piece of equipment.

Cross Slide:The cross slide has a female dovetail on one end and fits into the male dovetail on the top of the saddle.

Turning tools are the primary cutting and removal mechanism of a lathe, which rotates a workpiece while cutting it. Drilling, reaming, tapping, knurling, grooving, facing, threading, and a host of other operations are all possible with the lathe. Lathes are commonly employed in the machining of metal and wood. The cutting tool remains fixed as the workpiece rotates. The primary function is to shape a workpiece by eliminating unnecessary features.
